Hello!

We’re Rachel & Hunter Pridgen, owners of Feather or Knot Farm & Maker in Benson, NC. Our business started in the spring of 2020 when Hunter wanted to get 8 pet ducks. Little did Rachel know this would spiral out of hand very quickly! Currently we’ve got over 150 waterfowl in our flock ranging from domestic ducks to more exotic species. Lately, we’ve focused our efforts on conservation as several of the species we own aren’t too far removed from the endangered species list- such as Hawaiian geese and marbled teal.  This is where the “feather” in our business name comes from!

The second part of our business, the “knot”, stems from our love of making and creating. Hunter enjoys woodworking- creating lathe-turned bowls and bar implements as well as designing projects for our CNC router such as Bluetooth speakers and serving trays. In the fall of 2022, we also started creating ceramic pottery. All of our ceramic pottery is handcrafted and glazed by us in our workshop, resulting in one-of-a-kind pieces. We enjoy designing & creating these items in our spare time to help us unwind from our jobs (Rachel is an ICU RN, Hunter is an IT program manager).

In addition to the waterfowl, we also have a menagerie of other animals that we’re lucky to love on. Currently we have: 6 cats, 3 dogs, 4 Nigerian Dwarf goats and 3 miniature donkeys- we just had our first baby mini-donkey born on our farm in late June 2025!
